Baby & Toddler Session Tips

WHEN TO SCHEDULE
Schedule your session for a time that works with your child’s schedule.  We want a well-rested and full child.  A tired and hungry kid makes for a very uncooperative kid!

  • If your child is old enough, let them pick a treat as their reward.  Promising them something for after the shoot isn’t instant enough for little ones.  Try to pick something that isn’t sticky or messy.  I recommend Pez candy.
  • Have fun!  Don’t stress about your kid sitting perfectly or smiling for the camera, that’s my job!  Patience will pay off, and the less pressure the easier they cooperate, {usually}!
  • Make it a memory, not just a picture!  Talk to your child before-hand about other pictures you have and tell them stories about the picture and why you love it.  Then ask them to come make more memories with you!

WHAT TO WEAR
I suggest you keep it simple. Even your basic white onesie, or nothing at all! Try to stay away from distracting patterns and outfits that are too busy. They take away from your beautiful child! Let them be the center of attention and the main attraction! Although clothing with texture is a wonderful addition to the photograph! (For example chunky sweaters, ruffles, buttons, embroidery, or ribbons.)  Also, Keep to outfits and clothes that are things your child usually wears. Make sure it is comfortable, and they are comfortable in it. Last thing you want is a bunch of pictures of a child pulling at their clothes! Keep the overall look simple and avoid strong prints or an overall too busy look. Although clothing with texture is a wonderful addition to the photograph! (For example chunky sweaters, ruffles, buttons, embroidery, or ribbons.)

PERSONAL PROPS
